While our friends at other schools Snapchat and Instagram their Insomnia Cookies and 3-am diner runs, we at GW have been left in the dark when it comes to late night food options and even dessert in general. There were rumors around campus last semester that the famous blue dessert truck would be opening up a permanent shop near campus that would be open late—GW, I can safely confirm these rumors. We are all about to have a go-to place to stuff our faces with cookies and ice cream.

Captain Cookie is hoping to open later this month at 2000 Penn, at the corner of 21st and I street NW. Kirk Francis, the owner, states that they will essentially have the same menu, but with a few new items. “Costumers can still expect the made-from-scratch cookies, local ice cream, and build-your-own ice cream sandwich. Some new items will be hand-dipped milkshakes and home-brewed sodas.” To top it all off, they’ll deliver right to your dorm. It honestly can’t get any better.

You only have to wait until the end of the month, but in the meantime, continue the daily stop at the Captain Cookie food truck…no judgement. Checkout the new menu (which is still being tweaked, according to the owner) as well as the store layout below.

This Mouthwatering Ice Cream Trail In Delaware Is All You’ve Ever Dreamed Of And More

Delaware is full of creameries and ice cream parlors in fact, it seems like there is a great place to grab a cone everywhere you look! Some of our First State frozen franchises are out of this world, and if you haven’t discovered them all, here’s a good start. Take this Delaware Ice Cream Trail (rocky) road trip that will make all of your dreams come true.

Since many of these ice cream shops are seasonal, be sure to check their hours before you head out.

UDairy makes the best ice cream sandwiches I've ever had (Sorry, Coolhaus, I still love you). Their s'mores one is my favorite, but their other creations are so worth trying. You can find the storefront at 535 S College Ave Newark, Delaware.

Fresh-off-the-farm Ice Cream is easy to find in Delaware, if you know where to look! New Castle County has their own creamery at Woodside Farm, right in Hockessin. Visit them at 1310 Little Baltimore Rd Hockessin, Delaware.

Back down to Newark for some gelato this time, at the famous Caffe Gelato! Grab lunch while you're here, and load up on the cappucino-flavored gelato - it's the best in Delaware. Sit outside and watch the people walk by at 90 E Main St Newark, DE 19711.

Cowgirl Creamery at Emerson Farm is a small ice cream truck that parks out on a large dairy farm, and serves up some amazing, farm-fresh ice cream! Find the truck on the farm at 1035 Jamison Corner Rd Middletown, Delaware.

At Vanderwende, you can eat ice cream that was made with the milk from the cows that you're watching while eating ice cream, and that's almost as cool as the fact that they serve up a ton of freshly made flavors. Moooove yourself on down to 4003 Seashore Hwy Bridgeville, Delaware.

Frozen Farmer wins our "most scenic ice cream shop" award, if we had one. Enjoy this wide open farm and some delicious ice cream - I can't get enough of the mint chocolate chip! The Frozen Farmer can be found at 9843 Seashore Hwy Bridgeville, DE 19933.

This state is full of amazing dairy farms that make their own ice cream! If you're down at the beach, you can't miss Hopkins Farm, right in Lewes. 18186 Dairy Farm Rd Lewes, DE 19958.

Sometimes, you just want an ice cream float - and the Royal Treat is an old fashioned 'soda fountain' style ice cream parlor! They'll make your old-fashioned dreams come true. Visit at 4 Wilmington Ave Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

The Blue Scoop serves up a ton of delicious treats, but their ice cream is second to none! Try a new flavor here or go with your favorite - you won't be disappointed either way. They're hard to miss with their bright yellow awning at 31225 Americana Pkwy Unit 5, Selbyville, Delaware.

There is always room for ice cream! We sure can’t get enough when it comes to sweets… which is why this is easily the sweetest road trip in Delaware. Maybe next weekend, we’ll head out on the The Ultimate Terrifying Northern Delaware Road Trip Is Right Here & And You’ll Want to Do It and scare some of these ice cream calories off… or maybe, we’ll just get more ice cream.
